Bar chart in Tableau is the chart which can be used to compare values between the different items and also it can be used for Trend analysis, simple chart can be design easily, below are the steps to create bar chart in tableau.
in below example bar chart is design based on Country and Total Profit. Bar chart is the by default view for any one dimensions and measures used in tableau, Once user will drag one dimension and one measures in column and rows option , then tableau will automatically create the horizontal and vertical bar graph depends where user has placed the dimension and measure.
However, after that user can create and add more features in existing bar chart, like colours, data label, add line, target line and reference line as well.
Let’s take these are the dimension and measures which can be use to design the bar chart, Below data set is small that include few fields, but we have used only one dimension and measures to create bar chart. Few measure are created automatically by tableau.

Steps:
- Drag the Country in columns and Total profit in rows bar at the top of the Tableau option and Tableau will create bar chart automatically with one Dimension and one Measure.
- Colours of bar chart can be changed by option in Marks area
- To make bar chart as vertical, that can be changed by using Swap the rows and columns icon as shown below
- It can be sort by descending and ascending using sort icon on right to the swap icon
